I worked in an engineering firm with my husband, Gary, to help support our family financially. The hardest part was teaching our children to walk home, find the hidden key to the house, make their own peanut butter sandwiches for lunch, and be alone until I got home from work. Those moments were challenging for all of us, and they left a lasting impression on our family.
One day, I received a call that my dad had suffered a heart attack. We lived five hours away, so I quickly got our three kids—ages 18 months, 6 years, and 9 years—ready for the car ride. Gary would follow later in the day. As we arrived at my parents' house, a neighbor kindly took care of the kids so I could go to the hospital. The hospital room smelled like burnt skin, and my dad's chest had burns from the defibrillator paddles. He had an oxygen mask on and couldn't talk to us. He passed away the next day at 67, far too young.
The grief from losing my dad made me reassess many aspects of my life. When I was introduced to Shaklee, initially through cleaning products, it sparked a significant change. I hadn't given much thought to the cleaners I used, except that they needed to work and be on sale. But I realized I wouldn't let my kids near the bathroom when I was cleaning due to the fumes. If it wasn't safe for them, why was I breathing in those toxic fumes?
This revelation led me to switch to Shaklee products, including their health supplements and chemical-free anti-aging skincare. This change had a profound impact on our lives. My allergies disappeared, and my kids learned the importance of nutrition on their academic and athletic performance. My entrepreneurial spirit was ignited, and I started a health and wellness business with Shaklee products. Now, I was present for our kids when they went to school and when they came home. We began creating the best memories as a family.
Today, a new passion has emerged—to have an even larger impact. I mentor others to take charge of their family's health and contribute to their income by building an online business. As a mom, I have the greatest impact on our family's health today and tomorrow. And I have so many good stories to tell!
